How to get a better energy deal
If you live in Southeast Queensland, you can change retailer.
If you live in other parts of Queensland, there is only Ergon Retail. Keep in mind that you might still be able to change tariff and reap the benefit. See the website’s tariff section.
1 - Check your bill
A retailer’s bill will state if they have a better deal on offer.
A retailer will only communicate their better offer, not other retailers’.
2 - Energy Made Easy
Energy Made Easy is a trusted website. It compares all energy deals.
You will need your current bill with address and NMI number to get the most accurate estimates.

3 - Call retailers
Contact your current or another retailer.
Ask them to provide a better offer for your circumstances.
To negotiate, show them:

Better deals from other retailers.
4 - Tips to consider when switching deals
Discounts
Don’t be dazzled by discounts!
Some discounts/credits have strings attached. Check the conditions.
‘Pay on time’ discounts can be very harsh if you cannot pay on time.
Not just price
It’s not all about price!
Does the deal have other features to suit your needs, such as flexible billing, low fees, different time-of-use rates (particularly at peak time)?
Hardship
Switch retailers once your energy debt is cleared!
Payment plans, hardship programs and the Home Energy Emergency Assistance Scheme (HEEAS) don’t transfer to your new retailer.
